Dress Code

Mississippi Delta Community College employees are expected to dress and groom in a manner that promotes a positive image of the institution and is appropriate to the profession and to the region. Discretion in style of dress and behavior is essential to the efficient operation of Mississippi Delta Community College. Students, faculty, and staff of Mississippi Delta Community College shall dress in a manner that is appropriate for an institution of higher education. Employees are expected to use good judgment in choice of clothes and remember to conduct themselves at all times in a way that best represents the College. This includes refraining from wearing inappropriate attire, such as revealing or provocative clothing at College functions and events that are directly or indirectly related to the business or activities of the College. If students or employees report to the College dressed or groomed inappropriately, including clothing that bears obscene gestures or language, is provocative, or inappropriately exposes oneself, they may be asked to leave campus. Punitive actions may be imposed if this policy is violated.

Jeans Day at Work

Every Thursday is considered Jeans Day at Work. Please see below for details:

Acceptable Jeans:
Dark wash, well-fitting, clean, and free of excessive wear and tear (rips, holes, fading) are considered appropriate for the office environment.

Inappropriate Jeans:
Avoid wearing jeans that are excessively distressed, ripped, faded, or tight-fitting, as well as those with graphic designs or logos.

Pairing with Professional Attire:
Always pair jeans with a professional top, such as a collared shirt, blouse, blazer, or sweater, to maintain a polished look.

Because all casual clothing is not suitable for our professional environment, the following guidelines will help you determine what is appropriate to wear to work:

  • Clothing that works well for the beach, yard work, dance clubs, exercise sessions and sports contests would not be appropriate for a professional appearance at work.
  • Clothing that reveals too much cleavage, your back, chest, stomach, or underwear is not appropriate for a place of business—even in a business casual setting. Examples of unacceptable attire include pants that are ripped or cut off, spandex, leggings, work-out pants, yoga pants, sweat pants, or shorts; t-shirts, tank or halter tops; and beach flip-flops.
  • Any clothing that has words, terms, or pictures that may be offensive to others is unacceptable.
Important Considerations

Meetings:
When attending important meetings, err on the side of caution and opt for more formal attire, even if jeans are generally accepted in the office.

Department Specific Guidelines:
Some departments may have stricter dress code requirements; please consult with your immediate supervisor for specific guidance.

Professional Judgment:
Ultimately, please use your best judgment when deciding whether jeans are appropriate for a particular situation.

Should you have any further questions or concerns regarding the above, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Human Resources.
